New Royal Enfield Himalayan 450cc.

The Himalayan 450 introduces an all-new 452cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, generating 40bhp at 8,000rpm and 40Nm at 5,500rpm. It’s worth noting that during testing at high altitudes, the engine’s output was limited to approximately 28-29bhp. This altitude-induced constraint led to some performance limitations. Despite this, the engine exhibits a smooth feel and sound, distinguishing it from the earlier Himalayan 411 model. The new iteration lacks the roughness, with overall noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) well-managed.

New Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 render.

The next-generation Himalayan is set to feature a brand-new engine, promising a more modern and powerful performance compared to the current 411cc unit. Test models have been spotted multiple times, and a digital rendering by design artist Pratyush Rout offers a glimpse of the anticipated Himalayan 450. The rendering showcases several design updates that distinguish it from the current model, presenting the bike as a typical adventure model with key features like a sizable windscreen, a distinctive front beak, a tall posture, and a spacious luggage rack at the rear. While the designer aimed to preserve the fundamental Himalayan style, there are noticeable differences that make each version unique.

New Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Performance

The Himalayan 452 shows a difference in low-end performance compared to the 411 model. Below 2,500 rpm, the bike may feel a bit dull, but Royal Enfield explained that this drop in performance is due to the high altitude during testing. However, at sea level, there’s a noticeable increase in torque after 1,500 rpm. I didn’t use Eco mode much because it’s better suited for city riding with subtle performance in the first four gears.

On the other hand, Performance mode allowed me to achieve good speeds, mostly riding above 100kmph. Surprisingly, even at 120kmph, the Himalayan felt comfortable. Vibrations were minimal, overall comfort was reasonable, and the bike felt sturdy and smooth. I believe 120kmph could be a comfortable touring speed on Indian highways, but a conclusive confirmation would require testing in Mumbai.
