Dharmendra, the seasoned Bollywood actor, renowned for his blockbuster movies, a multifaceted career as a producer, and a stint in politics, was born on December 8, 1935, in Sahnewal, Punjab. Growing up in Ludhiana, he was immersed in education, thanks to his father, a head teacher.
From a young age, Dharmendra’s fascination with cinema led him to dream big. Inspired by stars like Suraiya, he even embarked on a lengthy trek to catch her movie, “Dillagi.” Fueling his passion, he made the bold move to Mumbai, fueled by a dream sparked by a contest win from “Filmfare” magazine.
His journey to stardom had its share of challenges, with his first break in “Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere” in 1960. Over time, he transformed from the stereotypical romantic hero to a versatile actor, earning accolades for his role in “Mera Gaon Mera Desh” in 1971.
Dharmendra’s prowess extended to three languages—Hindi, Punjabi, and English. Beyond the glitz of the film industry, he ventured into politics, serving in parliament from 2005 to 2009. In his personal life, he shares companionship with two wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, the latter being an actress and politician. With six children, including acting talents following in his footsteps, Dharmendra’s legacy continues to shine both on and off the screen.
Dharmendra First Wife Children
Dharmendra has been married twice, and he never divorced his first wife. The actor maintained two wives all his life. Dharmendra got married to Prakash Kaur in 1954 at the age of 19, long before he got into films.
Dharmendra and Prakash have 4 children Ajay Singh, Vijay Singh, Vijeta, and Ajeta Deol. Ajay Singh and Vijay Singh would go on to be successful actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Dharmendra later married actress Hema Malini on May 2, 1980. Dharmendra has two daughters with Hema Malini, Esha Deol, and Ahana Deol. All of Dharmendra’s children are married.
Dharmendra First Son: Sunny Deol
Sunny Deol, the eldest son of veteran actor Dharmendra, entered the world on October 19, 1956, in Ludhiana. While Sunny’s wife, Pooja Deol, opts for a life away from the industry’s spotlight, their family has its share of charm. Proud parents to two sons, Karan and Rajveer, the Deol legacy continues with Karan making his Bollywood debut in the film “Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas”.
